The publication Luboš Ogoun: Star of Post-War Ballet will be presented at a book launch party on 5 December 2024

The new publication, published by the Pavel Šmok Endowment Fund and Institute, will be launched on 5 December 2024 at the Small Hall of the Municipal Library in Prague (The Central Library on Mariánské náměstí) at 5.00 pm.

The year 2024 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Luboš Ogoun (18 February 1924 – 14 February 2009), an outstanding Czech choreographer and a prominent figure of contemporary ballet.

On this occasion, the Pavel Šmok Endowment Fund and Institute dedicates a new monograph to this leading artist. The book, filling yet another gap in the history of ballet in the second half of the 20th century, was written by historian Kateřina Šalounová, who focuses on the history of ballet after WW II as part of her postgraduate studies at the Department of Theatre Studies at the Masaryk University in Brno, and dance publicist and historian Lucie Kocourková, who has long been involved in raising awareness of the art of dance and has herself written four publications.

In the past years, the Pavel Šmok Endowment Fund and Institute published monographs dedicated to Studio Balet Prague and choreographer Pavel

Šmok; the new addition is a comprehensive portrait of choreographer Luboš Ogoun, to which the author from Brno chiefly contributed. Indeed, Luboš Ogoun’s work is connected primarily with the Brno ballet. Nonetheless, since Ogoun was a founding member of Ballet Prague, the Pavel Šmok Institute instigated and took the responsibility for publishing the monograph.
