Review of the Publication (Studio) Ballet Prague: The New Wave in Czechoslovak Choreography
13 February 2022
The web portal Taneční aktuality published a review of the first publication from our editorial series, which came out last September.
“This non-fiction book narrates one chapter of the history of Czech ballet art in a lively style. The publication features the recollections of dancers who experienced this period of the ‘golden sixties’ firsthand and danced with Ballet Prague. The mosaic of memories is accompanied with production brochures, period articles, as well as Czech and foreign professional reviews. The book describes the conditions under which the ensembles operated at the time, the creative background of the two leading choreographers and their works created for Ballet Prague(Silence and Noise – L. Ogoun, From Student Life, Nedbalky (Negligee), Prague Symphony – P. Šmok). An important part of the publication is the photographic documentation that illustrates the information given in the main text. Featured are also stories of famous personalities from the world of ballet and a look behind the scenes revealing many colourful stories and interesting facts.”
This is an excerpt from Lenka Dobešová Trubačová’s review of the book, which was written by dance publicist Lucie Kocourková; the full text is available HERE.
