New Review of Pavel Šmok’s Biography
The web portal Taneční aktuality recently published a review of the publication titled Pavel Šmok: Choreographer with a Poet’s Soul.
“The new publication presents Pavel Šmok and his choreographic work with an admirable attention to detail. The author follows his personal and professional path from the very beginning to the end, narrating about the choreographer’s childhood and beginnings at theatre, his career in competitive figure skating, his acting and dance studies and gradual transformation from dancer to creator. The readers will also learn about the formation of his distinctive choreographic style, characterised by extraordinary musicality – which he shortly pursued during his studies of composing at the conservatory – as well as his peculiar humour (indeed, he created a parody to Swan Lake called Brainticket) and his love for the Czech (not only) vernacular heritage, as reflected in his deliberate selection of Czech composers, and primarily B. Smetana, A. Dvořák, L. Janáček, and O. Nedbal.”
